Gillian trained as a graphic designer in the 1950s, then worked for Decca Records including freelancing design. In the ‘60s, she created handmade cards for Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, Heals and other exclusive stores.  Moving over to painting, her watercolour and pen/wash paintings of London, landscapes and flora were exhibited from the late 1970s in London until the middle of 1990s, Gillian then started to explore and develop her art, moving to East London and setting up her studio at Trinity Buoy Wharf E14.

Her new work exploded into large colour filled contemporary canvases strongly documenting the Docklands and London.  Murals and paintings have been commissioned by Tower Hamlets, Berwin Leighton corporate Lawyers, Canary Wharf, Mile End Hospital Education Centre Marriott Hotel West India Quay, St Pauls Cathedral, FCA Building, London City Airport; amongst many other public and private works. 13 Large format commissions were painted in 2008 for the new Education Centre at Mile End Hospital, which was a tremendous commission.

Gillian sold her 11 London Legacy large format paintings purchased by Matt Macdonald PLC in the City of London head office for their Chairman and Directors' Suite. After her long association with Trinity Buoy Wharf studios until 2010, Gillian worked on her paintings and prints from her studio in Greenwich. since August 2017 Gillian has returned to TBW to paint her new collection in oils at Trinity Art Studios. This big studio and gallery have several collective exhibitions every year of the artists who work there including Gillian. Still creating paintings and has started to made short art videos with music by Marc jb.

born 1942 Hertfordshire UK.

1958-1961 Watford Technology and art College awarded National Diploma of Design.

1962 Crawfords Advertising Agency employed as a graphic designer.

1964 worked for a well known Belgium graphic designer in Brussels.

1965 free-lanced and made handmade cards for all the top retail stores in London including Harrods, Fortnum and Mason, Selfridge, Heals etc.

1965-1970 Decca Records employed Gillian as a record sleeve co-ordinator, thinking up ideas and liaising between the A&R and the design studio.

1970-1974 worked for a furniture company designing publicity.

1974-1979 Married and had two sons. During this time started painting seriously.

1980 her first one woman yearly art exhibition at Scribes Cellar Carmelite Street London which continued until 1988. Many commissions were completed for corporate companies, lawyers and journalists.

1984 A painting was chosen by the RA Summer Exhibition, and several pen and watercolour paintings were exhibited at the Mall galleries and the Society of Women Artists during the 1980’s.

Gillian also painted the run down Docks, Richard Desmond commissioned many paintings of the area, the artist also painted the area around Shad Thames which had just started to be redeveloped, also Southwark, Wapping and East London.

1985-1989  Teaching watercolour at South West Hertfordshire Adult Education. Gillian is still running small watercolour technique workshops.

1989-1996 freelanced and joined in local Hertfordshire art exhibitions, running painting workshops, several exhibitions at the St Andrews Golf Club. During this time Gillian spent time at Christine Kubrick print studio St Albans Herts, developing her work.

1996 the artist moved to Isle of Dogs East London, working from her studio apartment.

1997 Joined the Docklands Business Club and London Chamber of Commerce to meet more business people and companies.

1998 Launched a range of London greeting cards which were very successful .

1999 commission from The Mayor of Tower Hamlets to paint a large tryptic, the history of communication placed in the Tower Hamlets Town Hall at East India Docks.

1999 Gillian leased a studio at Trinity buoy Wharf, her new work  developed into the use of colour and shapes on large format canvases, which were shown off at London City Airport yearly exhibitions.

2000 launch of her latest large format acrylic paintings at an exhibition at the Chain Store Trinity Buoy Wharf. Painted a mural for the Marriott Hotel West India Quay, they commissioned 2 paintings and Gillian designed 2 welcome cards and the menu for the restaurant.

2001 an exhibition at Excel in their foyer. Gillian painted a cow for Chapel, a British sparkling wine company during the wine expo, it was then exhibited in front of Credit Swiss Canary Wharf.

2003-2004 one of the artists big commissions to paint 5 big murals on 4 floors about London, UK, Europe and the world at Berwin Leighton Piesner corporate lawyers Lower Thames Street, London.

2004-2007 Exhibitions and Open studios at Trinity Buoy Wharf, Hertfordshire, commissions and raising money for charities.

2007-2008 Another big commission for the new NHS Learning Centre, Mile End Hospital. 13 large format paintings, including 2 tryptics over 6 metres high.

2008 painting exhibition at the FSA Canary Wharf and Canada Tower launching her iPad Paintings video at the FSA.

2009 Exhibition at the Barbican Library September. Artist & Illustrator article October 2009.

2010 left Trinity Buoy Wharf Container City studio and continued painting in Greenwich.

2012 BBC ONE staged 21 artists on the Millennium Bridge to paint the Diamond Jubilee Thames Regatta including Gillian who was interviewed.

2012 Exhibition of the paintings on the Millenium Bridge at The gallery at Battersea Park, Gillian exhibited a print of the painting which was purchased by a private client.

2013 painting in Devon, with a solo exhibition on Torquay. Had an exhibition at FSA (FCA) Canary Wharf, three large format acrylic on canvas paintings were purchased.

2014 FSA exhibited Gillian's video of her iPad paintings in the foyer.

2014 Exhibition at Mott Macdonald visitors centre, plus several commissions painted of London and Cornwall. Gillian painted a tryptic of Tenerife, Canary Isles for a architect client. 2 of London and Torquay large format paintings went to a client in Shireoaks, Nottingham.

2015 - 2016 leasing 11 large format paintings to Mot Macdonald PLC, which were finally purchased by the company for their Directors Suite at 9 Fleet Place City of London.

2016 the artist completed 5 private commissions of London and French sunflower painting at Richleu, the sunflower centre.

2017 joined Trinity Art Studios at Trinity Buoy Wharf Leamouth East London e to paint in oils and explore colour. design and abstract paintings. Exhibited at Trinity Art Gallery in London City Island E14. Working hard to produce stunning abstract colours and shapes. I am lucky enough to be walking every Friday with Angela and Evie my toy poodle studying the changes of seasons and the wonders of landscape, we study the trees, shapes, the effect of the sun and changing atmospheres." I am still at the art studio where I have been running watercolour classes in 2018. My new abstracts have been brought and now are being displayed in Serbia and Croatia."  Working on some new pen and watercolours of the Thames River path, still looking for old untouched corners of the Docklands, not much left now, all now built up with exclusive apartments.

2018-2020 showing my new work at the Trinity Art Gallery London City Island London E14. Now in the midst of planning a book on my interpretation of painting the Docklands from 1982, watching the Canary Wharf development grow, capturing images of local areas that still show the original Docklands and the contemporary buildings.
